About Bad Habit Collective

We spent a lot of years doing serious things. Somewhere along the way, we figured out that doesn't mean you have to live a serious life. Work hard. Take care of your people. Drink good coffee. And leave enough room for a few bad habits.

Serious lives. Unserious people.

Bad Habit Collective started with two Army veterans, a shared love of good coffee, and a pretty simple realization:

Life’s too short to drink shitty coffee.

We’re Josh and Bri, the husband-and-wife team behind Bad Habit Collective.

Between the two of us, we’ve spent a lot of our lives in places where responsibility isn’t optional. Combat zones. Cockpits. Hospitals. Long days, short nights, early reports, missed meals, and more than a few mornings held together by caffeine and questionable decision-making.

Josh served in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout, including two combat deployments to Iraq. After leaving the military, he went straight to flight school and built a career through just about every corner of aviation—flying aerial photography and mapping, private jets, regional airlines, corporate charter, and a low-cost carrier before eventually becoming a captain at a major airline.

Bri served in the Army as a Physician Assistant, including a combat deployment to Iraq. After the military, she spent years practicing medicine, primarily in orthopedics and pain management. She has since traded the stethoscope for BHC full-time.

And somewhere along the way, coffee became part of the story.

Coffee Was Never Just Coffee

For Bri, coffee is less of a beverage and more of a prerequisite for human interaction.

Seriously.

Don’t talk to Bri before coffee.

For Josh, it became a tool of the trade—something that gets you through brutally early mornings, long duty days, short overnights, and the occasional day when your body has absolutely no idea what time zone it’s supposed to be in.

But that relationship with coffee actually started years earlier.

After drinking enough terrible coffee in the Army, Josh made himself a promise:

Never drink bad coffee again.

What started as necessity eventually became an appreciation for genuinely good coffee. And when we decided to build a business together, we kept coming back to something simple:

Why not build it around something we both actually love?

So we did.

Why “Bad Habit”?

That part started as a joke.

After years in Florida, we moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.

Let’s just say there was a little culture shock.

Josh flies with plenty of people who don’t normally drink coffee for religious reasons. Every once in a while, somewhere around hour ten of a long day, one of them will quietly admit:

“Man, I really want a coffee.”

Usually followed by something along the lines of:

“Don’t tell anybody.”

And there it was.

A bad habit.

The name made us laugh. More importantly, it felt like us.

Bad Habit Collective has always had a little wink behind it. It’s sarcastic. A little rebellious. Not terribly interested in taking itself too seriously.

But underneath the joke is something we genuinely believe.

Serious People Deserve Unserious Lives

We’ve both spent much of our adult lives carrying real responsibility.

There are days when Josh puts on the uniform and assumes responsibility for an airplane full of people.

Bri spent years putting on a stethoscope and taking responsibility for the people in her care.

Our friends are pilots, healthcare workers, veterans, business owners, first responders, mechanics, tradespeople, parents, and professionals. People with careers, families, mortgages, employees, deadlines, and plenty of people depending on them.

But eventually, the uniform comes off.

The laptop closes.

The tools get put away.

And sometimes you just want to go do hood-rat shit with your friends.

That’s Bad Habit Collective.

We believe you should work hard. Take care of your people. Handle your responsibilities. Take care of yourself.

But somewhere in all of that, you’ve got to actually live.

Ride the motorcycle.

Take the trip.

Stay out a little too late.

Order dessert.

Pour the good bourbon.

Light the cigar.

Sit around the fire telling stories you’ve already told a hundred times.

And drink really damn good coffee.

We’re not interested in telling anyone how to live their life. We just don’t think the goal should be making it through life as efficiently as possible.

We’d rather collect some stories along the way.

The “Collective” Part Matters

Bad Habit Collective started with coffee, and coffee will always be at the heart of what we do.

But we intentionally didn’t call ourselves Bad Habit Coffee Company.

Because the idea was always bigger than what’s in the bag.

BHC is about the people, places, machines, rituals, adventures, and occasional bad decisions that make life interesting.

It’s why aviation shows up here.

It’s why motorcycles show up here.

It’s why you’ll see military heritage, vintage pinups, road trips, late nights, early mornings, garages, hangars, rallies, tattoos, and a healthy amount of sarcasm.

Those aren’t props we picked because they tested well with a target demographic.

That’s our life.

And as Bad Habit Collective grows, we want the brand to grow with it.

Coffee is where we’re starting.

It’s not necessarily where we’re stopping.

Welcome to the Collective

There’s one other thing we brought with us from the military.

You meet people from completely different backgrounds, with completely different beliefs, personalities, hometowns, and stories.

And somehow, you’re all on the same team.

We’ve never felt the need to make a big corporate statement about that.

It’s simpler than that.

If you’re good people, you’re our people.

You don’t need a motorcycle.

You don’t need tattoos.

You don’t need to be a veteran, a pilot, a first responder, or anything else.

Hell, you don’t even need to make particularly good decisions.

Just bring a sense of humor.

We’ll bring the coffee.

Bad Habits. Good Times.
